Scholar-in-Residence Program
Our Scholar-in-Residence program is a self-directed residency designed to bring researchers (and other...) from out of town to live and work in the historic center of Padula, immersing themselves in our way of life here and becoming part of the fabric of the community for the duration of their stay. We trust that each artist will use their time in the way that best supports their process: whether that be to work/produce, or to experiment, think, explore. While there are no required activities, there are opportunities for more direct contact with the locals and our artists-in-residence through monthly dinners and other events.
Residency periods last for either three or four weeks (18 or 25 days), with the possibility for an artist to combine two or more sessions in order to have a longer stay. We host between 4 and 6 artists at a time. We offer each artist private accommodations with an extra room to use as a work space. They will have access to the large common room in our main studio/gallery building as well.
Accessibility: Please note that our village is on a hilltop: you must walk either up or down stone steps and narrow cobble-stone streets in order to access our main studio and gallery building, housing, and all shops, restaurants, etc. We tend to discourage bringing a car for the duration of your stay as parking is quite limited but can help arrange for one locally for occasional longer-range outings during your stay if desired.

There is no fee to apply.
The residency fee is €800 per artist per session, each session being either three or four weeks (18 or 24 days). Sessions may be combined to create a longer stay but we do not allow half or partial sessions.
The residency fee covers housing, studio (if applicable), a community meal each week, and a final cleaning.
In the case of collaborating or couple artists who will share living and studio spaces, the combined residency fee for both artists is €1200 per session.
Funding
We currently offer one need-based fellowship each year and are working towards being able to offer stipends for travel, food and materials. Please let us know on your application if you'd like to be considered for a fellowship or stipend.
We will update this page as we establish our fellowships.
