Guidelines
Eligibility
Qualified applicants must be working at a professional level in their field. We accept applications from emerging and mid-career creatives, as well as from those who are established with national and/or international reputations.
Applications for residency are judged primarily on the quality of submitted work samples. There are no publication, exhibition, or performance requirements contingent on an Art Center Padula residency.
We encourage creative professionals of all backgrounds to apply for admission. Art Center Padula celebrates varied ideas, world views, and personal characteristics, and are committed to being an organization that welcomes and respects everyone regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, race, religion, philosophical or political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, nationality, geographic origin, and socioeconomic status.

Creative Disciplines
We accept applications in the following disciplines:
VISUAL ARTS - including book arts, conceptual art, design, drawing, environmental art, fiber arts, film & video, installation arts, metalworking, mixed media, multimedia art, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and woodworking
Note: We do not have darkroom, sculpture/woodworking, or printmaking facilities, but provide exploration space for artists working in those disciplines.
WRITING - including academic scholarship, criticism, fiction, history, poetry, journalism, nonfiction, philosophy, playwriting, screenwriting, storytelling
We accept applications in the following disciplines:

Non-collaborating couples who wish to be in residence together must submit individual applications.
International Applicants
Art Center Padula welcomes applicants from around the world. Writers who work in languages other than English or Italian should supply samples of work in translation as well as in the original. A working understanding (level B1 or higher) of either English or Italian is required.
Collaborators may submit a joint application and choose to share studio/living spaces.
Non-collaborating couples who wish to be in residence together must submit individual applications.

Calendar
The Residency program consists of nine 18-day sessions per year, taking advantage of the warmer months. Each session starts on Thursday and ends on Monday, giving us a few days between each session to ready our spaces for the next artists.
The application deadline for the 2024 residency season is Sunday 25 February. Fees and Funding
Fees: There is no fee to apply.
Residency fees for 2024 are as follows:
Single resident--
Private room, shared bath, and a private studio: €975 per resident
Resident pair/couple--
Double room, shared bath, shared studio: €1650 per couple
Double room, shared bath, separate studios: €1950 per couple
All residency fees include a weekly group dinner (for residents and Friends of the Art Center), use of kitchen, sunroom, il salotto verde (the green salon), library room and the extensive gardens at Casa Padula.
We do not accommodate half or partial residency sessions.

APPLICATION MATERIALS
- Applicant Proposal
A one-page proposal which addresses the concept and direction of proposed work, a description of your practice, and why a residency here in Padula is important to you or your project. - Bio
A brief description of your personal and professional background. - Resume/CV
This one-page summary should include educational background, teaching, publications, exhibitions, awards, honors and other pertinent experience. Document format pdf, doc or docx. - Work Samples
These should be recent and representative of the best work according to the applicant’s medium and discipline. Visual artists and writers: insert a link to your website or online portfolio. Audio/visual artists: link to embedded audio files (e.g. SoundCloud) or video files (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo).
If you do not have any work samples online, please follow the instructions on the form.
Please note that if your application for our Artist-in-Residence Program is accepted, you will also automatically be admitted as a member to Art Center Padula APS, a not-for-profit cultural association located in Padula, SA, Italy. Membership in our association allows you to participate in association events (the Artist-in-Residence Program specifically), but carries no obligations. A small portion of your residency fee will cover your membership dues for one full year from your acceptance date.
