Stregoneria FellowshipArt Center Padula friend and supporter Alessando Bovino is a genealogist from the souther Italian city of Benevento. Benevento's history is rich with stories of the streghe or witches, who were known to have gathered regularly under an ancient walnut tree along the banks of the river Sabato. Some were known to have been connected to the goddess Diana, others with Isis, and still others had roots going deeper into the "old religion" or the ancient practices of indigenous Italians.
Their connection to Nature, plant medicine, the moon, and the mysteries of the unseen was (in)famous across the region. |
The Stregoneria Fellowship is open to any artist/writer who whose current work deals in some way with Stregheria (the "old religion") or stregoneria (witchcraft, herbalism, etc) and its many facets.
Those with family roots in Benevento are especially encouraged to apply!
The Stregoneria Fellowship is a partial fellowship and covers a portion of the residency fee, reducing the total residency fee to €475.
